How do you stop your IT projects being in the 84% that fail to achieve their vital goals?

December 2005

IT projects are continually failing to deliver the benefits businesses need, due to poor Project Management.

But that needn’t be the case. Good project management was essential to the success of David’s last £5 million+ turnover Building Services Consultancy CSW, and since setting up Logical Minds he has managed to achieve a 0% project failure rate across the board.

So what are some simple steps you can take to avoid the failure in the first place?

  • A cross section of the necessary people must be involved from the beginning
  • The project must be suitably scoped out and specified in enough detail such that everyone can understand it
  • Realistic costs and budgets must be set in line with the specification
  • Timescales and programme must be broken down in to manageable chunks with key dates and actions marked as milestones
  • Resources must be sufficient and capable of carrying out what is required
  • Identify risks and design out whatever you can at every stage
  • Produce a transparent project plan with as much detail as possible, then ensure everyone gives input and reviews the plan, therefore facilitating the project team to take ownership
